Help now and at the hour of death
Such is the promise of the Blessed Virgin made to Saint Mechtilde, a Benedictine nun of the 13th century.
Through the first, you will address God the Father who, in His sovereign power, has exalted my soul to the point of giving me a rank next to Him alone, in Heaven and on earth. You will ask Him to have me present at the hour of your death to comfort you and to drive away from you all adverse power.
Through the second, you will address the Son of God who, in His unfathomable wisdom, has endowed me with such fullness of knowledge and understanding that I enjoy the Holy Trinity, in a knowledge superior to that of all the saints. You will also ask Him that, by this clarity which makes me a radiant sun enough to illuminate the entire Heaven, you be sheltered, at the hour of your death, from all ignorance and error.
Through the third, you will address the Holy Spirit who has flooded me with His love, to give me such an abundance of sweetness and tenderness that only God possesses more than me. You will ask Him that I be present at the hour of your death to pour into your soul the sweetness of Divine Love. Thus you will be able to triumph over the pains and bitterness of death, to the point of seeing them transformed into sweetness and joy.
While Saint Mechtilde was praying to the glorious Virgin Mary to deign to assist her with her presence at her last hour, the Blessed Virgin answered:“I promise you; but you, recite three Hail Marys every day.”

You will also ask Him that, by this clarity which makes me a radiant sun enough to illuminate the entire Heaven, I may fill your soul, at the hour of your death, with the lights of faith and knowledge, and that you be sheltered from all ignorance and error.
Through the third, you will address the Holy Spirit who has flooded me with His love to give me such an abundance of sweetness and tenderness that only God possesses more than me; and you will ask Him that I be present at the hour of your death to pour into your soul the sweetness of Divine Love.
